Thank you to all of the families who attended our 5th annual picnic at McCollum Park in Downers Grove on June 10, 2007. It is such an inspiration for the parents of younger children to see the older kids climbing, running and playing. We will do it again next year!
American Heart Association's Heart Walk On Sunday, September 24, 2006, twenty four childhood stroke survivors gathered together, along with over 170 of their friends and family for the American Heart Association's Heart Walk at College of DuPage. You couldn't miss our group...almost everyone was wearing navy blue t-shirts which proclaimed "I KNOW A CHILDHOOD STROKE SURVIVOR". The young survivors wore shirts which said "I AM A CHILDHOOD STROKE SURVIVOR". The event was a huge success in many ways. Families from our group raised over $14,000 for the American Heart Association. But most importantly, we raised awareness about pediatric stroke, not only in our area, but in other states as well. You may see someone wearing our shirts in Oregon, Washington, Pennsylvania, Kentucky or Indiana. If we can help other families know they are not alone, or help get these children diagnosed at an early age or better yet, facilitate research into the prevention or treatment pediatric stroke, then we will have succeeded. Thank you to everyone who supported our efforts. Together we can make a difference.
