WELCOME TO CHILDHOOD STROKE & HEMIPLEGIA CONNECTIONS OF ILLINOIS

CSHC is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children who survived a stroke and/or who have symptoms of hemiplegia or hemiparesis from any cause.  We exist to increase awareness about pediatric stroke and hemiplegic cerebral palsy and to provide education, resources, recreation, and access to research for families affected by these disorders.

CSHC began in 2002 as an information and support group for families local to the Chicago metropolitan area.  We have grown into a recognized U.S. authority on children with stroke and/or hemiplegia, forming connections with the U.K., the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, and the National Stroke Association to further our mission.  Now, families from other states regularly attend our monthly meetings as we continue to uniquely serve these children by providing the only opportunity nationwide for their families to connect – in-person and on-going – with other families, medical professionals, research scientists, and the larger community of resources.

BOOKS FROM HEMIHELP IN ENGLAND MAY BE AVAILABLE SOON!
HemiHelp is a UK-based charity for children and young people with hemiplegia.  They have two books which are only available through HemiHelp.  One is called "Hands Up for Andie", a story about an 8 year-old girl with right hemiplegia.  The other book, "Congenital Hemiplegia" is a comprehensive book for medical professionals as well as parents who want to understand the deceptively challenging disorder of hemiplegia.  CSHC of IL was fortunate enough to receive a shipment of these one-of-a-kind books in 2006 from HemiHelp, but they sold out quickly.  We are working on making both books available again for purchase here in the U.S.  Please check back soon to learn how you can order your copies.

RESEARCH
There are many opportunities to participate in local research studies.  Please visit our Research page to find out if your child qualifies for any of these important studies.
